Spondylosis

Spondylosis.jpg

A degenerative joint disease that affects the Dog’s vertebrae, It is the body’s way to try and stabilise instability in the joints of the spine, by laying down extra bone to protect them. Commonly known as arthritis of the spine it can be identified by the formation of Bone Spurs (osteophytes) in the spine, they bridge one vertebrae to another. This condition is non inflammatory and mostly affects the thoracic and Lumbar Vertebrae.

Tends to be associated with ageing but can develop as a secondary issue in cases where the dog has Intervertebral Disc Disease or had spinal surgery.
